Letter Of Appreciation From Mayor Of Windsor & Maidenhead

Mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead

On 25 July, I was honoured to receive a letter from the Mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead, Asghar Majeed, showing his appreciation for being Guest of Honour at the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011, which took place on 2 July at Oakfield First Schjool in Windsor.

Although the letter is addressed to me personally, undoubtedly it is with thanks to all those that were involved in the event for making the Mayor’s day one to remember.

The Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 – A Success – We Thank You All.

Well, after five months of hard work, the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 finally took place on Saturday July 2 at Oakfield First School in Windsor, and is now over for another year.

It was a fantastic day and we were blessed with beautiful weather; the performances were outstanding; the food was delicious; the crowd was enthusiastic and happy – it was obvious everyone was having a great time; and the mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead was a delightful guest of honour – even he joined in for  a little “poco poco”!

So, on behalf of Lenny and myself, we’d like to thank everyone who took part, and to Mr. Herry Sudradjat, the Minister Counsellor at the Indonesian Embassy in London who was there representing the Indonesian Ambassador, Yuri Thamrin.  We are grateful to him and Mr. Billy Wibisono the Third Secretary (Information & Socio-Cultural) for their support and help with making the event a success.  Our thanks also go to Rosslyn Sendorek, the headteacher of Oakfield First School, for allowing us the use of the school grounds.  Our gratitude to the musical trio, Bonapasogit UK, who turned up out of the blue and contributed to the day’s entertainment.  We’d like to thank all the stall holders for being organised and keeping their areas clean and safe.

But most importantly of all, we would like to thank all of you who attended – we hope you enjoyed the event and have come away understanding and appreciating the wonderfully exotic culture of Indonesia a little more.

We would also like to thank Groupe Seb for donating electrical products to the raffle.  And those of you who bought tickets.  We raised £70 and the money will be split and donated between the Red Cross, to aid victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March this year, and selected charities for underprivileged families in Indonesia.

You can read the first coverage of the event in Indonesian online at the Antara News: http://www.antaranews.com/berita/266086/tarian-sajojo-dari-papua-pukau-warga-windsor-inggris

Photos of the event will be uploaded into the Gallery page very soon.

Special Announcement: Mayor Of The Royal Borough Of Windsor And Maidenhead To Open Event

The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, Asghar Majeed

We are delighted to announce that the recently elected Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Asghar Mejeed, will be attending the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 as guest of honour, along with a special representative of the Indonesian Embassy, and will officially open the event.  We are most grateful to him.

Councillor Asghar Mejeed profile:

Asghar Majeed was born and bred in  Yorkshire. and later graduated from Huddersfield University.  He first moved to the Borough 14 years ago when he became a single parent to three sons as a result of the loss of his wife – his family has helped to bring them up.  His eldest son – Azfar – is a Graduate in Politics, whilst his middle son – Junaid – is due to graduate in Law next year and his youngest son – Asher – will be starting university in September.

As Councillor Majeed has not remarried he has chosen his sister Naheed Majeed – a Financial Analyst to be his Mayoress.

Asghar hopes to use his term of office to bring communities closer together.  He is already the chair of the One Borough Steering Panel; a project that develops links between young people from different backgrounds.  He hopes that his elevation to Mayor will encourage more ethnic minorities and “Yorkshire people” to enter politics.

Councillor Majeed was Deputy Mayor in 2010/11.

Congratulations To The Duke And Dutchess Of Cambridge!

Prince William and Kate Middleton take their wedding vows.

The organisers of the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 wish to congratulate HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton after taking to the world stage yesterday and making their vows to one another at Westminster Abbey in London.

The procession was spectacular with over 2 million flag-waving well-wishers lining the streets. I’m sure all agree that Kate looked amazing in her McQueen-designed wedding gown, echoing visions of the late Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco.

Whether you are a royalist or not, it was a proud moment indeed for us Brits!

Don’t forget that you can continue to enjoy Royal surroundings and take in the scenic views of Windsor, Berkshire on 2 July, the day of the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 – celebrating 200 years of historical ties between Indonesia and the UK.

Third Event Flyer Design

A third flyer for the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011 has just been designed.  It was stylishly fashioned by Kang Hardy, and incorporates an image of our official flyer No. 2 with images of some of the delicious cuisine that will be on offer on the day of the event at the Makasan Lapang London food stall.

Though we would like to point out that flyer No.3 was freely designed by Kang Hardy to publicise the Makasan Lapang London food stall, and neither he nor his company is in any way involved with the organising of the Indonesian Dance Celebration 2011.  However, we are most grateful to Mr. Kang for independently promoting the event.

Special thanks to James Fielding for helping design flyers 1 & 2.

There’s still a few places left if you wish to book a stall.  But get in quick, as time is running out!  For more details and bookings, click here.
